Is Yahoo powered by Bing a good thing?
The reason, we think, Google has been able to maintain it's dominance over Yahoo and Bing as a search engine is because Google works and works well. You can often find exactly what you are looking for within the first few results. It has a clean, functional interface and returns results based on meaningful algorithms. Which is they way it should be.
Yahoo used to be an okay alternative as it's results were still fairly relevant. However now with the Bing and Yahoo partnership, Yahoo search results have gone out the window. I don't know if it is direct result of Yahoo search results being powered by Bing, but the timing seems too coincidental. Bing search results for myself and many other users have always been meaningless, dictated by some unknown variables that don't have anything to do with giving you the appropriate results. As recent as last week, Yahoo search results were still okay. As of today however, they are completely trashed. So it is apparent that the combining of two sub-par search engines does not make a good one. With all of the resources between Microsoft and Yahoo, you would think they could at least make a decent search engine.
They problem I think, is they put too much effort into thinking up superfluous ways to make their search component better. I don't know about you, but when searching for something, I'm not there to see pretty colors and a plethora of banner ads. Doh! It just occurred to me, maybe that's why you don't get meaningful results with Bing and now Yahoo, they could be going after page impressions rather than usefulness, forcing you to go through many pages of results until you get frustrated and click on a banner or go to Google, which is where we should have started.
That greed will always bring you down. Better get with the program fellas, before you become nonexistent as useful search engines.
